The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) urged the public on Sunday night to stop eating a locally produced and sold canelé dessert as it was found to contain glass fragments.

A resident informed the bureau about the problematic dessert on Sunday.

A canelé, according to Wikipedia, is a small French pastry flavoured with rum and vanilla with a soft custard centre and a dark, thick caramelised crust.

The statement pointed out the problematic product is a Yuzu-flavoured canelé, which was manufactured and sold by “Patelier” at Van Sion Son Chun Building on Praça das Orquídeas.

The statement underlined that the bureau has ordered the shop to stop selling the product, while inspecting the safety of its production line, apart from having ordered the manufacturer to destroy the product. The statement stressed that the product had not been distributed to other shops.

The statement did not reveal whether anyone ate the dessert.

According to the statement, any shops that breach the city’s food safety law face a fine ranging between 50,000 patacas and 600,000 patacas.
