The Macau Polytechnic Institute (IPM) announced at a press conference yesterday that it will offer Macau’s first four-year bachelor’s degree programme in speech and language therapy from the next academic year.
Addressing the press conference on the IPM campus in Zape, IPM President Lei Heong Iok said the programme, with a department formed by IPM academics and their counterparts from Chung Shan Medical University (CSMU) in Taichung, would provide an opportunity for local students to study and undergo clinical training in Taiwan for two years.
IPM School of Health Sciences Associate Professor Lao Cheng Kin said the programme’s graduates would receive the qualifications required for a speech and language therapist, adding that they could practise the profession at hospitals and medical and social care providers as well as educational institutions upon registration with the Health Bureau (SSM).
