Students from the University of Saint Joseph’s (USJ) Faculty of Arts and Humanities are showcasing their works in an exhibition at the Creative Macau gallery until December 2.
Titled “SELECTED WORKS 2023”, bachelor’s degree graduates in Architectural Studies, Communication and Media, Fashion Design, and Design are showcasing their “best capstone [crowning achievement] projects” from the 2022-2023 academic year, a recent statement from the gallery noted, adding that exhibition-goers will be able to view the culmination of their academic journey.
The exhibition is divided based on four different themes, namely “Post-Industry”, “Shadow”, “Rebirth” and “Shapeless”.
In “Post-Industry”, a separate USJ statement said that Architecture students showcase individual works that “embrace the local culture and the ambition of a more participated urban space”, with projects ranging from a recycling centre to vertical urban farming.
Moreover, “Shadow” features short films created by Communication and Media students that explore both the literal absence of light and “the metaphorical representation of hidden or repressed aspects of oneself or society” through photography, film, and media installations, according to the statement.
The USJ statement added that “Rebirth” by Fashion Design students demonstrate how the field of sustainable fashion design can benefit the world and lead to rebirth. Meanwhile, “Shapeless”, which looks at the possibility of design beyond shapes, sees Design students use Macau as a case study in their projects and address “key matters of social relevance, ecological balance, and cultural contextualisation, with a common vision of contributing to a more sustainable and liveable Macau”.
The gallery is located on the ground floor of the Macau Cultural Centre (CCM) complex and is open from Mondays to Saturdays from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. For more information, visit the Creative Macau website on https://www.creativemacau.org.mo/ or USJ’s website on www.usj.edu.mo
