The Judiciary Police (PJ) were informed by the Fire Services Bureau (CB) yesterday at 8:23 a.m. that a female corpse was found floating in the sea in front of the Kun Iam Statue in Nape, according to a PJ statement.
According to the statement, a resident saw a handbag floating in the sea yesterday morning and informed a security guard on duty nearby, who passed the information to the police. Firefighters and police officers who arrived at the scene soon discovered the cadaver.
The statement noted that police found a Macau resident identity card (BIR) in the handbag, providing preliminary confirmation that it belonged to the deceased. No suicide note was found.
The statement noted that after a preliminary inspection, no suspicious or criminally induced injuries were found on the corpse.
The case was listed as dead body found. The cause of death still needs to be confirmed by forensic examination. The case has been transferred to the PJ Investigation Section for follow-up, according to the statement.
