Mainlander robs hotel guest: police

A mainland man in his 30s was nabbed by the Public Security Police (PSP) on Saturday for robbing a guest in a hotel in Cotai, according to a PSP statement.

Saturday night’s statement did not reveal any information about the victim.

According to the statement, the police received a report at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday, where the victim reported that he had been robbed of HK$400,000 in cash.

The statement said that the suspect fled the hotel by taxi after the robbery. The police intercepted the taxi the suspect was travelling in about 10 minutes later in Avenida da Ponte da Amizade, and found HK$160,000 in cash and “items used to carry out the robbery” on him, the statement said.

The statement did not explain the difference in the amount of cash found on the suspect and the amount mentioned by the victim.

The mainlander is suspected of robbery, assault and detention, and the case is still under investigation, the statement said.
