BEIJING – The arrangement for state leaders to hear reports from the chief executives of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) has been adjusted, a spokesperson for the Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office (HKMAO) of the State Council said yesterday.
The move fully shows that the central authorities attach great importance to hearing reports from the chief executives of the two special administrative regions (SARs) as well as the work of the SARs, the spokesperson said.
The spokesperson noted that the adjustment is conducive to strengthening the system and mechanism in which SAR chief executives are answerable to the central government, and to better ensuring that the central government exercises overall jurisdiction over the SARs.
The spokesperson added that the adjustment aligns with the constitutional order in the SARs as stipulated by China’s Constitution and the basic laws of the SARs, and is in line with the Constitution and the basic laws.
