Macau’s six integrated resort (IR) operators – Sands China, Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG), MGM China Holdings Limited, SJM Resorts, Melco Resorts & Entertainment, and Wynn Resorts – have each donated 10 million patacas to support earthquake relief efforts in Gansu and Qinghai provinces, according to recent separate statements by each operator.
The devastating earthquake struck Jishishan county in Gansu province on December 18 and had a magnitude of 5.9 to 6.2, according to Wikipedia.
In Gansu, 131 people were killed while 782 were injured, while in the neighbouring Qinghai province, 31 deaths, almost 200 injuries and two missing people were recorded, according to state media reports as of last Wednesday.
Each resort operator noted that the donations were made through the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macau SAR.
Sands China President Wilfred Wong Ying-wai; GEG Chairman Lui Che Woo; MGM China Holdings Limited Chairperson & Executive Director Pansy Ho Chiu-king; SJM Managing Director Daisy Ho Chiu-fung; Melco Chairman and CEO Lawrence Ho Yau-lung; and Wynn Macau President and Vice Chairman of the Board Linda Chen Chih-ling all expressed their condolences for the victims, hoping that their contributions would help in supporting the earthquake-stricken communities’ recovery.
