The Legislative Assembly (AL) Open Day on Saturday recorded 2,340 visitors, according to an AL statement.
Located in Nam Van (Praia Grande), the building was open to the public from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Saturday, its first Open Day after the three-year COVID-19 pandemic.
During the Open Day, there was a photo exhibition of the lawmakers’ activities, booth games, guided tours, and performances by students from the Macau Conservatory, the statement said.
Legislative Assembly President Kou Hoi In told journalists on the sidelines of the Open Day that this year’s activities were supplemented with interactive games, which he hoped would let the public get a better understanding of the operation of the legislature.
Kou also said that the legislative work this year will be busy, with more than 30 bills to be reviewed and voted on, adding that the 33 legislators will strive to complete the task ahead of them within the current legislative session.
Local secondary school students told reporters during their visit to the legislature said that the Open Day had enabled them to gain a better understanding of the legislative work and the procedures for reviewing bills before lawmakers vote on their final version.
A master’s student in Political Science said the Open Day was a rare opportunity for him to visit the legislature, adding that he was particularly interested in the legislature’s library. He suggested adding Putonghua and English guided tours besides those in Cantonese during the Legislative Assembly’s future Open Day, according to media reports.
