Local choir Dolce Voce will showcase their 15th Anniversary Concert series “6000 Days” on January 21 and January 28 at S. Domingos (St Dominic) Church and St Joseph the Worker Church respectively, according to the choir’s statement.

Dolce Voce, meaning “sweet voice” in Italian, was founded in 2008 with the aim of promoting the art of choral singing, enriching Macau’s choral music culture, and providing high-quality choral music to the local community. Since its establishment, the choir has performed over 60 times and has been invited to participate in events, including the 24th and 30th Macau International Music Festival (MIMF), the “Interschool Singing Contest,” and the “Asia Pacific Symposium for Music Education Research.”

The choir is led by Maria Vanessa Leão, an Associate Professor and Music Performance Project Coordinator in the Music Department of Macao Polytechnic University (MPU).

According to the statement, the concert titled “6000 Days, Of Glorious Hymns,” is scheduled to be held at S. Domingo’s Church on January 21. During this performance, the choir will present a captivating collection of religious pieces, highlighting their vocal talents and honouring the significant heritage of sacred music. On January 28, the concert “6000 Days, Of Glamorous Hits,” will take place at St. Joseph the Worker Church, where they will focus on a classic and popular musical repertoire, catering to the preferences that their audiences have expressed over the past decade.

Leão noted in a brief online interview with the Post yesterday that the name “6000 Days” was chosen to commemorate the choir’s establishment for 15 years, which is close to 6,000 days. She added that the selection of religious pieces was not overly serious and many of them have a modern touch, and the melodies and chord progressions are easily appreciated according to contemporary aesthetic standards. Nevertheless, she also acknowledged that performing in a church setting adds a certain sparkle to the religious and sacred emotions conveyed by the songs.

The two concerts are scheduled to take place on January 21 at 8 p.m. at S. Domingos Church and on January 28 at 8 p.m. at St. Joseph the Worker Church. Admissions to the concerts are free. For more information, visit: facebook.com/dolcevocemacau.
