A mainlander has been arrested for stealing a mobile phone, Public Security Police (PSP) spokeswoman Lai In Hong said at a regular press conference yesterday.

The suspect’s surname is Hao, a male in his forties who told the police he’s a waiter.

According to Lai, a mainland resident reported to the police last September that when he or she was watching a concert in Taipa, someone stole his or her mobile phone worth 1,800 patacas. The victim reported the case to the police, who did not reveal the victim’s gender.

After checking the surveillance footage at the scene, the police identified the suspect as Hao but confirmed that he had already left Macau. He was arrested when he re-entered Macau through the Qingmao Port checkpoint last Thursday.

Under questioning, Hao admitted to stealing the phone out of greed.

Hao has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a theft charge, according to Lai.

Meanwhile, in a recent statement, the Public Security Police confirmed that they were investigating a video circulating on social media depicting a man opening the helmet boxes of motorcycles parked near Rua do Padre Eugénio Taverna. The police have intercepted a person of interest, according to the statement. Motorcycle owners who have experienced losses are urged to contact the Public Security Police on 8981 5332.
