The new Macao Union Hospital in Cotai, which started its trial operation last month, said yesterday that it has received 4,481 applications for its second-phase recruitment for 80 vacancies, which ended on Tuesday evening, covering positions such as health workers, professionals in various other fields such as IT and legal staff, and administrative staff members.
The second-phase recruitment, which started on December 21, ended on Tuesday. Only local residents could apply for the 80 vacancies, which covered 25 different kinds of positions.
Statistically, each job on offer received 56 applications.
Macau’s largest hospital, the Islands Healthcare Complex – Macao Medical Centre of Peking Union Medical College Hospital (PUMCH), started its trial operation on December 20, coinciding with the 24th anniversary of the establishment of the Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR). After its ongoing trial operation, the healthcare complex will officially open on September 16 this year.
The large-scale healthcare complex, aka Macao Union Hospital, is operated by PUMCH in collaboration with the Macau government. It is informally known as Cotai hospital due to it being located in south Cotai.
“Islands” is the official term referring to Taipa, Coloane and Cotai.
According to the law regulating the Macao Union Hospital’s management, which took effect on October 1 last year, the employment of the healthcare complex’s staff members is regulated by the city’s labour legal system for the private sector, rather than by the government’s employment system for public servants, despite the fact that it is Macau’s second public hospital.
The Macao Union Hospital ran its first-phase recruitment between October 31 and November 10 last year, covering 90 health workers and support staff members. The first-phase recruitment, which also only covered local residents, included five general practitioners and 50 junior-level nurses.
Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture Elsie Ao Ieong U told lawmakers on Monday that the hospital’s first-phase recruitment received 2,236 applications, 165 of whom were interviewed.
Ao Ieong said on Monday that the hospital has now completed its first-phase recruitment process, after which it will announce the final results in due course.
The Macao Union Hospital said previously that those hired in the first-phase recruitment will first undergo training during its trial operation before starting to work formally when its official operation starts in September this year.
The Macao Union Hospital announced in a notice on its website yesterday that its second-phase recruitment, which ended on January 9, had received 4,481 applications.
According to the hospital’s website, the second-phase recruitment comprised five clinical laboratory technicians, four radiologists, two physicists, three legal professionals, three medical administrative staff, six accounting staff, two operation assistants, 11 IT engineers, two medical engineers, six procurement staff, five human resources administrative staff, three public relations staff, three publicity and promotion staff, two multimedia production staff, 15 administrative clerks, and eight cashiers.
Details of the second-phase recruitment can be checked on the hospital’s website (https://www.cmm-pumch.gov.mo), which is available in Chinese, Portuguese, and English.
Different departments in the hospital will gradually come into service later this year.
Ao Ieong also said on Monday that the hospital’s full operation would require up to 5,000 health workers and other staff, adding that the hospital would not be able to hire this number of staff this year.
