The Marine and Water Bureau (DSAMA) said in a statement that there was a fire in the engine room of a TurboJET passenger vessel from Hong Kong to Macau at sea at about 10 a.m. yesterday, pointing out that no injuries were caused.
According to the statement, the vessel, which departed from Hong Kong’s Macau Ferry Terminal for Macau’s Taipa Ferry Terminal, was carrying 239 passengers and nine crew members on board.
The statement said that the fire broke out when it was sailing in the waterway of Zhuhai’s Qing Zhou (“Green Island”), adding that the crew on board put out the fire themselves.
The bureau immediately dispatched rescue vessels and an emergency plan was activated to notify all relevant rescue entities to stand by and provide assistance at the Taipa Ferry Terminal.
The vessel berthed finally, and all passengers and crew members were safely disembarked, the statement said.
