The Judiciary Police (PJ), in conjunction with students from 23 local schools, launched last Tuesday a week-long awareness campaign on preventing crime in general and phone fraud in particular.
The campaign, which ends today, targeted school campuses and venues where youngsters tend to gather.
PJ spokesman Cheong Kim Fong told reporters yesterday in Praça do Tap Seac that the annual campaign involving leaflets and posters aims to reinforce young people’s awareness of phone fraud and to enhance their awareness of crime prevention, such as by alerting them about the risk of being tricked into drug deals when participating in Chinese New Year (CNY) celebratory activities.
With the approach of the Chinese New Year which begins next Saturday, there was an increased chance for young people to travel outside Macau and to participate in CNY-related activities during their holiday, which, Cheong said, might increase the possibility and risk for them to commit offences.
According to Cheong, crime prevention – fraud in particular – has “always” been the focus of the Judiciary Police. The awareness campaign has become an annual event since 2018.
Cheong underlined that the Judiciary Police will continue to maintain “good” communication and cooperation with schools and carry out more diversified awareness campaigns for young people, jointly protecting youngsters’ growth in to adulthood.
Yesterday’s open-air event comprised 50 police officers, school representatives, and participants of the two PJ youth leader schemes.
