More than half of the 1st Macau International Film Festival and Awards’ (IFFAM) tickets could be bought by members of the public, Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes said yesterday.

Fernandes, who heads the festival after internationally renowned “festival maker” Marco Mueller abruptly quit last month, told reporters on the sidelines of yesterday’s ‘Walk for a Million’ charity event that about 10 percent of the tickets had been reserved for the media and related professions, while some had been reserved for the sponsors of the festival.

The festival committee has been criticised by some commentators for having kept a large percentage of tickets from the public.
