A woman from the mainland has been arrested for robbing a female illegal currency exchange dealer in a casino’s toilets, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Chong Kam Leong said at a regular press conference yesterday.

The 35-year-old suspect surnamed Zhou told the police that she’s a sales assistant. The victim is a mainlander.

According to Chong, on Friday the victim engaged in a currency exchange deal worth HK$2,000 with Zhou in the washroom of a casino in Cotai

Later, Zhou arranged another money exchange with the victim in the same washroom. During the meeting, Zhou discovered that the victim had HK$102,000 in cash and chips in her backpack. Subsequently, Zhou snatched the backpack, used its strap to choke the victim and then robbed her.

The victim cried out for help, alerting nearby security guards who apprehended Zhou.

The victim sustained minor injuries to her neck, hands, and feet.

Under questioning, Zhou confessed to the crime and said that she committed it after gambling all her money away.

Zhou has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a robbery charge.
