The government and the Macau Chamber of Commerce (ACM) will hold a “Weekend Consumer Rewards in Northern District” promotional activity from March 18 to August 4, where users will be able to take part in lucky draws for e-coupons after they consume at least 50 patacas in the northern district through e-payment on weekdays, and the coupons can only be used during weekends, ACM President Frederico Ma Chi Ngai said yesterday.

The Economic Services Bureau (DSE) held a press conference announcing the launch of the activity yesterday at the chamber’s headquarters in Zape.

Considering the effectiveness of the “North District Consumer Carnival” last year in stimulating consumption in the northern district, over 400 businesses will participate in the 20-week activity, and the activity will give out consumption coupons worth 500,000 patacas in total and prizes in cash, Ma said.

Those with real-name authentication of their electronic wallet and spend at least 50 patacas in a single amount at participating offline and online shops in the northern district will be able to win e-coupons at three lucky draws from Monday to Friday, but the coupons then can only be redeemed during weekends.

DSE Director Tai Kin Ip said during yesterday’s press conference he hoped that the concerted efforts of the government and the business sector can boost consumption in the northern district, adding he believed that the weekend consumption discounts would be able to “sustainably” attract residents to consume there.

Ma called on the participating businesses to actively introduce discounts, saying he hoped that residents would stay in Macau to consume.
