Restaurants Kapok, Restaurante Litoral (Taipa) and Son Tak Kong have all garnered the Bib Gourmand distinction in the MICHELIN Guide Hong Kong & Macau 2024, now bringing the total number of restaurants and street food outlets that provide “delightful value-for-money gourmet experiences” to 10 in Macau, according to a MICHELIN statement yesterday.
Named after the Michelin Man and Michelin Group’s official company mascot, Bibendum, the Bib Gourmand, according to the MICHELIN GUIDE website, is a rating that “recognises friendly establishments that serve good food at moderate prices”.
Regarding the new additions’ backgrounds, Kapok’s menu is dominated by traditionally made Cantonese favourites and, with its motifs, is described as “the epitome of yesteryear glamour”, the MICHELIN statement noted. It is located in Taipa.
The statement added that Restaurante Litoral (Taipa) serves Portuguese and Macanese classics in portions meant for sharing.
Son Tak Kong in the peninsula opened in 1979 and is owned by a Shun Tak native. The statement said that it serves authentic Shun Tak cuisine.
Meanwhile, in Hong Kong, seven establishments garnered the award, bringing their total to 67, the statement said.
The statement quoted MICHELIN Guide International Director Gwendal Poullennec, who welcomed the new additions, as saying: “These 77 Bib Gourmand food establishments not only showcase the thriving food culture that permeates Hong Kong and Macau, but also highlight the many possibilities gourmets looking for great culinary experiences at affordable prices can enjoy.”
The 16th edition of the MICHELIN Guide Hong Kong & Macau’s full restaurant selection will be announced next Thursday during the MICHELIN Guide Ceremony, as well as on the guide’s website and mobile app.
