Zhuhai’s Gongbei Customs has announced that its officers have caught a woman and a man attempting to smuggle a total of 300 eyebrow pencils to the mainland through the Qingmao pedestrian border checkpoint.
Gongbei Customs said that the couple entered the mainland from the “nothing to declare channel” of the checkpoint last Wednesday evening, looking nervous and with their pockets bulging.
Customs officers intercepted the duo and found that they were both hiding a total of 300 eyebrow pencils of the same brand in their pockets, and wrapped around their midsections.
The woman told the officers that she didn’t know the man who was also carrying eyebrow pencils, even though both walked through the checkpoint holding hands.
The Gongbei Customs said that carrying, mailing or posting goods prohibited or restricted in the mainland as well as dutiable goods entering or leaving the mainland are considered ways of smuggling and those caught will be held criminally liable depending on the seriousness of the case.
