A local woman who had worked in a beauty salon as a beautician has been arrested for deceiving two female customers, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Lei Chi Hou said at a special press conference yesterday.

The 35-year-old suspect surnamed Chan told the police that she’s jobless.

According to Lei, in late 2022, the two victims, both regular customers of the beauty parlour in the city centre where Chan worked at that time, were persuaded by her to purchase discounted beauty treatments for a total of 65,800 patacas. Subsequently, the victims scheduled appointments with the woman for the discounted beauty treatments but she became evasive and came up with various excuses.

In late 2023, the two victims separately went to the beauty salon, only to be informed that Chan had been dismissed in May due to poor performance. The salon checked their records and verified that no payments had been received from the two victims for beauty treatments. Suspecting fraud, the victims separately reported the case to the police.

The police arrested Chan on Tuesday in a flat in the northern district. Under questioning, Chan admitted to the scam and claimed that she had used all the ill-gotten money to repay personal debts.

Chan has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing fraud charges, according to Lei.
