Portuguese photographer António Duarte Mil-Homens is celebrating 50 years of his photography in an exhibition entitled “50 Years Behind The Lens”, with his extensive work currently showcased in the basement of the Portuguese Bookshop at 16 Rua de São Domingos in the city centre until April 5.

The self-taught lensman was born in Lisbon on October 9, 1949, and started his photography journey in 1974, according to his website.

The website notes that Mil-Homens became a full-time photographer in 1984, with his works covering areas ranging from advertising to scientific photography.

The Portuguese photographer has 22 solo photography exhibitions under his belt, and has joined 30 collective photography and art exhibitions. His current exhibition, which exhibits works in both black-and-white and colour, is held as a part of The Script Road – 13th Macau Literary Festival, which recently concluded.

The works on display skilfully captured moments and “preserves personal and collective memories, moments of profound historical change, traces of ancient traditions and evocations of spaces and faces”, as well as offering a vision and an interpretation of the photographer’s “vast world”, a statement provided at the bookshop said.

The statement added that the works also symbolise the symbiotic journey between the flow of life and photography.

One can visit the exhibition from Mondays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
