Three Filipino women are suspected of scamming seven compatriots by claiming that they could assist them in finding jobs, and one of them who works as a maid has been arrested, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Chong Kam Leong said during a regular press conference yesterday.
According to Chong, the victims told the police in January that the three Filipinas, who ran the scam together, promised to arrange job placements, such as security guards and cleaners, for them and their family members or friends between last September and November. The suspects demanded a “commission” ranging from 18,000 to 20,000 patacas. The victims handed over a total of 100,500 patacas to the trio but lost contact with them afterwards.
One of the three suspects, surnamed Sapad, attempted to leave Macau through the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macao Bridge checkpoint on Sunday but was apprehended by the authorities.
Sapad has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing fraud charges.
At the time of the press conference, the police were still looking for the two other suspects.
