SJM holds back-to-back international IP exhibitions to elevate guest experiences
Ever dreamt of going on a Moomin-themed journey? Capture memories, enjoy fun games, and dine with the beloved characters created by Finnish author Tove Jansson in the 1940s. From now until 31 August, fans of the Moomin family are invited to immerse themselves in the enchanting world of Moominvalley at the “Moomin Wonderful Encounter - Joyous Adventure in Macau” exhibition, hosted at the Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau.
This exhibition is the newest highlight in a series of cultural IP partnerships led by SJM Resorts, S.A., following the successful launches of Miffy and Donald Duck earlier. These themed campaigns, featuring exquisitely designed selfie set-ups, character meet-and-greet, interactive workshops, and limited-edition souvenirs, have significantly enhanced Macau’s tourism offerings and attracted a diverse array of visitors spanning different ages and interests.
Embark on the Moomin adventure from the West Lobby entrance, where a four-metre-tall inflatable Moomin invites guests for limitless photo opportunities. As guests journey through Moominvalley, they will discover their favourite characters one by one. Pose with Moomin and Snorkmaiden in front of Moomin House, or with the Hattifatteners who are paddling by; or check out Moominpappa, Mrs Fillyjonk and their children, who are happily fishing and dancing. Guests can also look out for the life-size Moomin mascot, who will be making scheduled appearances to greet fans, offering an opportunity for up-close and interactive experience with this beloved character.
After reeling in snaps for Instagram feeds, head over to the themed photo booths to get a print encased in an event-exclusive photo frame. The little ones can unleash their imagination through drawings and stickers at the Moominvalley creative painting world or discover what surprises await at the giant Moomin’s Gashapon Machine, which dispenses SJM exclusive privileges and Moomin-inspired lifestyle merchandise and stationery.
Not-to-be-missed is the nearby Floating Hut souvenir shop, which showcases a range of Moomin-themed products and merchandise, including exclusive souvenirs available only in Macau, open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Visitors can take a pause from their shopping spree at the GLP Lobby Lounge, where a full menu of Moomin-themed delicacies and drinks awaits their cameras, alongside large plush versions of the Moomin characters.
In addition to the Moomin-themed exhibition, SJM has hosted two other popular IP-themed exhibitions since last year. The “Miffy Creative Show - Travel in Style” exhibition featured a collection of 100 artist-designed Miffy models throughout the resort and included the “Create Your Own Miffy Design Contest,” which attracted close to 150 entries from the broader community. Additionally, the “Donald Duck 90 - The Fabulous Gallery” celebrated the Disney icon’s 90th birthday, showcasing various expressions of Donald Duck characters in the gallery. The mischievous duck and his family made many special appearances at various locations in the resort, attracting visitors to take photos and tag their trips on their social media in promotion of Macau.
By leveraging international IP partnerships, SJM developed seasonal campaigns and successfully drew many family visitors to its themed attractions encompassing art, culture, F&B and exhibitions, fully taking advantage of the synergistic benefits of “Tourism+” and solidifying Macau’s reputation as a “World Centre of Tourism and Leisure”. Moreover, SJM is fully committed to nurturing local IP developments by title-sponsoring a range of design competitions as well as commission various commercial art projects and product designs from local artists and SMEs, providing a platform for their further development.
