During a regular press conference yesterday, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Lou Chan Fai announced a theft case, in which a man from the mainland stole 18,000 patacas from a shop’s cash register near the Ruins of St. Paul.

The 34- year-old suspect surnamed Kang told the police that he’s jobless.

According to Lou, the suspect climbed into the handicrafts shop through the window on the night of April 3. He opened the cash register, stole 18,000 patacas, and left the scene. The shopkeeper reported the case to the police the following day. Later, the police identified Kang, who had already exited Macau. He was apprehended upon his re-entry into Macau through the Barrier Gate checkpoint on Thursday.

Under questioning, he admitted to the crime and claimed that he had spent all the ill-gotten money.

Kang has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing an aggravated theft charge, according to Lou.
