The Macau International Airport recorded a total of 109,592 passengers during the mainland’s five-day Labour Day Golden Week holiday from Wednesday last week through Sunday, an increase of 66 percent from last year’s corresponding period, airport operator CAM announced in a statement yesterday.
According to the statement, the local airport recorded a total of 908 aircraft movements during the five-day period, an increase of 59 percent from last year’s corresponding period.
Last year’s Labour Day Golden Week holiday also lasted five days, from April 29 through May 3, 2023.
According to the statement, the number of passengers and aircraft movements recorded during the 2024 Labour Day holiday period returned to 80 percent and 85 percent of the levels recorded during the corresponding period of pre-pandemic 2019.
The statement said that passengers on mainland China routes accounted for 44 percent of the total passenger numbers during the five days, while passengers on routes serving China’s Taiwan region represented 11 percent of the total. The remaining passengers, 45 percent of the total, took international flights.
Currently, Macau’s international air passenger flights only cover destinations in Southeast Asian and Northeast Asian countries.
The statement also noted that Korean Air is planning to launch a passenger route between Macau and Seoul in July, when there will be 29 airlines operating passenger flights serving the local airport in Taipa, covering 22 destinations in the mainland, three destinations in Taiwan, and 14 foreign destinations.
In addition, the statement said, Korean Air is also planning to launch a passenger route between Seoul and Lisbon before the end of this year, enabling passengers to travel from Macau to Portugal “directly” via Seoul.
