The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) said in a statement yesterday that it has recently signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Institute of Asian and African Studies of Lomonosov Moscow State University (Russia) to launch cooperation in the Oriental Studies field.

The institute is a “leading training centre for orientalists in Russia”, according to the statement.

The statement noted that the MOU was remotely signed by the private Catholic university’s Rector Rev Prof. Stephen Morgan and the institute’s director, Prof. Alexey Maslov. The signing of the MOU aims to set up strong cooperation in the areas of organising academic and cultural exchanges; developing and implementing joint research and analytical projects; designing, developing, and organising online courses; and joint winter and summer schools within areas of mutual interest.

The MOU also aims to strengthen cooperation in organising joint research events and promote the exchange of faculty members, research fellows and administrative staff to lecture, participate in symposia and conferences, the statement said.
