The Rui Cunha Foundation (FRC) gallery is hosting the “Winged Dragon and Phoenix Welcoming Dual Celebrations – Exhibiting Wisdom and Collaboration to Create the Future” student exhibition, which features artworks created by young people with intellectual disabilities.

The event is annually promoted by the Macau Association for Intellectual Development Services (MAIDS), formerly known as the Macau Association for the Mentally Handicapped.

On until Saturday, the exhibition comprises work created by participants in art classes at Kai Chi School, Kai Chi Early Training Centre, Kai Lung Centre, Kai Hong Centre and Sam Meng Chi Snack Shop, according to a recent MAIDS statement displayed at the gallery. A total of 51 artworks are showcased, which include 25 paintings and five 3D works alongside works that have won prizes during the annual internal competition, which was this year entitled “Delivering Love – Walking Together with Love”, according to a statement by the gallery last Tuesday.

The annual event, the FRC statement said, is always accompanied by an internal competition. The age group for participants for this year’s contest was also expanded to enable more students to take part in the contest, according to the statement, which is in line with the objectives of the UN’s “World Autism Awareness Day”, which is celebrated annually on April 2.

The MAIDS statement added that the students’ works will at some point be transformed into tangible products that can be sold for charity through various platforms, aiming to enable members of the public to have the opportunity to “discover and appreciate the artistic talents of individuals with developmental disabilities, so that they can better understand and support them”.

The gallery is open from Monday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. On Saturdays, it is open from 3 p.m. to 7 p.m. and is closed on Sundays and public holidays. For more information, visit https://ruicunha.org/frc/
