Integrated resort operator SJM Resorts launched its “SJM SME Institution” on Tuesday, designed to support the sustainable development of Macau’s small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), the company said in a statement on that day.

A launch ceremony was held at Grand Lisboa Palace in Cotai on Tuesday.

The statement noted that the initiative aims to “polish the ‘golden business card’ of Macau as an international metropolis with local SMEs”.

The institution provides business-related sharing sessions, industry standard seminars, and workshops to all interested MSMEs (Macau’s small and medium-sized enterprises), even for those who have not established a business relationship with SJM, according to the statement, offering themed monthly lectures on corporate sustainability, cyber security, and food safety, among other topics.

The institution also aims to “enhance the quality of products and services provided by these enterprises and offer reference to those seeking to implement modern management and development plans”.

In her speech, SJM Managing Director Daisy Ho Chiu Fung said: “The local MSMEs are an integral part of Macau’s authentic culture, key to promoting and preserving local cultural features, essential for nurturing the ‘Made in Macau’ brand, and imbuing a sense of pride and identity in the community.”

She added: “SJM strongly supports the Macao SAR Government’s ‘1+4’ strategy for appropriately diversified economic development, under the spirit of big enterprises leading small ones and in alignment with our ‘Local First’ procurement policies to support MSMEs”.

Tuesday’s ceremony also saw the announcement of SJM’s collaboration with the Macao Polytechnic University (MPU) to host the “SJM SME Institution Logo Design Competition”, with the winning design to be officially adopted as the institution’s logo and incorporated into its souvenir design, the statement said.

Inviting students and staff from the university to take part, the statement said that winners will have a chance to participate in the design and production process of the souvenirs. The contest, according to the statement, intends to “provide students with practical application experience, foster local original designs, and offer opportunities for new design talents to exchange ideas and showcase their work”.

Meanwhile, the company also held two special seminars that were attended by nearly 100 Macau SME representatives after the ceremony.
