The Public Security Police (PSP) arrested, respectively, last Friday and on Sunday a local woman and a local man for drunk driving, in which the latter who was banned from driving crashed into a pavement barrier in Rua das Estalagens while the former crashed into a car parked in a passenger loading and unloading area in Taipa, according to a regular police press conference yesterday.

The Public Security Police received at about 7 a.m. on Sunday a report about a driver sleeping in his car near Rua das Estalagens, a PSP spokesman said during the press conference, adding that PSP officers found that the car’s engine was running while the male driver was sleeping. The spokesman noted that the officers also discovered some fresh scratches on the front and bodywork of the car, which contained a green paint transfer, as well as signs of damage to a pavement barrier alongside the vehicle.

The officers conducted a breathalyser test, which showed that the man’s alcohol concentration was 1.44 grammes of alcohol per litre of blood, according to the spokesman, who noted that under questioning, the suspect with a criminal record for a hit-and-run offence admitted to having consumed alcohol during dinner in Taipa on the previous day.

The spokesman noted that the suspect in his thirties was banned from driving from December 12 last year to June 11 this year, i.e., for six months.
