A woman who was banned from driving has been arrested after she accidentally drove into the vehicular lane at the Barrier Gate checkpoint, Public Security Police (PSP) spokeswoman Lai In Hong said at a regular press conference yesterday.
The suspect surnamed Ku is in her fifties.
Ku was driving a vehicle that did not have a dual licence plate for Guangdong-Macau, nor a triple licence plate for Guangdong, Macau, and Hong Kong.
According to Lai, a PSP officer at the checkpoint discovered Ku did not have the required licence to cross the border on Tuesday. Upon further investigation, the officer found that Ku had been previously banned from driving due to repeatedly driving in reverse illegally.
Under questioning, Ku told the police that she had accidentally driven into the checkpoint’s vehicle lane, and that she did not intend to travel to Gongbei.
Ku has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a disobedience charge.
