A local man “committed suicide” on Wednesday by burning charcoal in a flat in Largo da Cordoaria in San Kio district, the Judiciary Police (PJ) said in a statement yesterday.
According to the statement by PJ spokesman Cheong Kim Fong, the Judiciary Police were notified of the death by the Public Security Police (PSP) on Wednesday afternoon, noting that “a man suspected of committing suicide by burning charcoal was pronounced dead after being taken by firefighters and paramedics to a hospital for emergency treatment”.
A PJ investigation showed, the statement noted, that the victim’s family called the police after discovering that the middle-aged victim was “suspected to have committed suicide by burning charcoal” in the flat’s toilet at about 4 p.m. that day.
A preliminary investigation at the scene and examination of the body showed, according to the statement, that no suspicious or possibly criminal-induced injuries were found on the deceased. The exact cause of death was pending the outcome of a forensic examination.
Initially, the case had been classified as a dead body found.
