Estrada da Vitória was closed for a period of time after a tree trimmer was stung on his left hand by a hornet while he was working near the former Hotel Estoril, the Public Security Police (PSP) said in a statement yesterday.

Firemen removed a nearby hornet nest from a tree shortly after the incident.

The injured man is a 37-year-old non-resident worker (NRW) employed by a company contracted by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC), the statement noted.

According to local Chinese-language media reports, a source at the scene said that the worker was stung while working there at about 3:30 p.m. yesterday.

Firefighters blocked Estrada da Vitória immediately, where the tree is located, and used the fire engine’s hydraulic ladder to remove the nest measuring 20 cm x 20 cm.

The worker was rushed to the hospital for treatment, according to the statement.

Estrada da Vitória reopened at around 4 p.m. yesterday.
