A non-resident construction worker (NRW) was injured after falling from a height at the construction site of a public housing project in the Zone A land reclamation area yesterday morning, according to a joint statement by the Public Works Bureau (DSOP) and the Labour Affairs Bureau (DSAL) yesterday.
The Public Security Police (PSP) identified the worker as a 43-year-old man, who was taken to the public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre by firefighters.
The statement said that he had lacerations to his forehead, the back part of his head, right upper arm and right elbow as well as multiple body abrasions, adding that his consciousness level was decreasing at that time. There were no updates about his condition as of last night.
According to the joint statement, the victim was carrying out aluminium formwork* on scaffolding on an external wall when he accidentally fell from there, adding that the worker wore a safety harness while he was working.
The joint statement also said that both bureaux are highly concerned about the injury and have expressed their concern for the injured.
The joint statement said that the two bureaus have ordered the contractor to suspend all work carried out on scaffolding on the external walls at the incident site immediately.
The Public Works Bureau has ordered the contractor to fully cooperate with the Labour Affairs Bureau’s investigation into the cause of the accident.
The statement said that DSOP officials have also ordered the contractor to submit an investigation report in due course.
