The Artyzen Grand Lapa Macau hotel in Nape is showcasing a representative selection of white porcelain artworks and utensils from Dehua county, Fujian province, in an exhibition entitled “Beauty of Perfect White – Blanc de Chine”.

Dehua porcelain (德化陶瓷), traditionally known in the West as Blanc de Chine (French for “White from China”), is a type of white Chinese porcelain. In 2021, the kilns of Dehua were inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Organised by the Dehua County Government, co-organised by AMAGAO Gallery and supported by the Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO), the free-admission exhibition is open to the public daily from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. until July 17.

The exhibition kicked off last Tuesday, with Secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Dehua Committee Huang Wenjie and Dehua Deputy County Magistrate Hong Yangxing, as well as MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes officiating at the opening ceremony.

Senna Fernandes underlined in her opening remarks that Macau is a UNESCO-recognised City of Gastronomy, and food and porcelain are inseparable, adding she hoped that through the exhibition, cultural and tourism cooperation between the two places will be promoted, resulting in more business opportunities and making the city’s “golden business card” as an international metropolis shine even brighter.

Hong said in his speech that Macau and Dehua share a common culture and rich tourism resources, adding he expected the event to help promote exchanges and cooperation between the two places and boost the high-quality development of tourism in both places.

As reported by Xinhua on Saturday, Hong said during the recent opening of another exhibition in the mainland that white porcelain from Dehua became one of the most important export items along the Maritime Silk Road as early as during the Song and Yuan dynasties, pointing out that Dehua ceramics have been exported to more than 190 countries and regions, and Dehua has become the largest production and export base of ceramic handicrafts and the largest production base of ceramic tea sets and flower pots in China.

More than 100 artworks by national masters and provincial-level masters, as well as some new contemporary artists are on display.
