Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Chong Kam Leong announced yesterday the arrest of a male painter and retiree from the mainland for stealing HK$55,000 in cash and a casino chip worth HK$1,000 from a car parked at a metered space in Taipa on Wednesday afternoon.
During yesterday’s special press conference, Chong noted that the two suspects – a 50-year-old surnamed Liu and a 54-year-old surnamed Yuen– were arrested at a hotel guestroom in the city centre on Wednesday night.
According to Chong, the Judiciary Police received a report from a middle-aged non-resident man at 5 p.m. on Wednesday about the disappearance of his wallet from the car he had rented and parked in Taipa, saying that he went into a nearby convenience store to top up his e-purse without locking and turning off the engine, resulting in a loss of HK$55,000 in cash and a casino chip worth HK$1,000.
Chong said that the duo entered the car at random, with one stealing the valuables from the car, while the other acted as lookout.
The two suspects were transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) yesterday, facing aggravated theft charges.
