The University of Macau’s (UM) Faculty of Business Administration (FBA) has recently organised the 36th Asian Finance Association Annual Conference, gathering around 300 scholars from around the world to discuss research findings.
The statement did not mention when and where the three-day event took place.
Jointly organised with the Asian Finance Association (AsianFA), the statement noted that the annual conference is “one of the largest and most influential academic finance conferences in the Asia-Pacific region”. It featured keynote speeches by Sheridan Titman, McAllister Centennial Chair in Financial Services at the University of Texas at Austin and US National Bureau of Economic Research research associate; and University of Hong Kong (HKU) Associate Vice-President and HKU Business School Associate Dean and Chair of Finance Lin Chen.
Moreover, the event also had a special panel on fintech (financial technology) to discuss related topics, while six Best Paper Awards were also presented, including one to a paper co-authored by UM Finance Associate Professor Xie Jing with scholars from the National University of Singapore and Huazhong University of Science and Technology, according to the statement.
Nearly 800 papers were received from scholars around the world, with around 200 accepted to form over 50 discussion sessions and a PhD consortium, the statement said. They covered “cutting-edge finance topics” such as algorithmic trading and machine learning, the statement pointed out.
During his speech at the opening ceremony, UM Vice Rector Michael Hui King Man encouraged finance scholars to engage in academic and research exchanges, while FBA Dean Yu Jun noted during the closing ceremony that the event was a significant contribution to the development and advancement of finance research in the Asia-Pacific region, according to the statement.
