The local observatory issued yesterday its Orange hot weather alert, indicating the maximum temperature expected in the next couple of days would exceed 36 degrees Celsius in some areas.
Macau is experiencing “extremely hot” weather, according to the Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) website, with a temperature of 34.6 and 37.1 degrees recorded respectively at “Big Taipa Hill” and the “Outer Harbour Ferry Terminal” weather monitoring posts yesterday afternoon, the former of which was the highest recorded there as yet.
Other weather monitoring posts also recorded the mercury reaching more than 35 degrees.
On its website, the bureau urged members of the public to “beware of heatstroke, avoid outdoor activities in the hot sun, and drink more water”.
