The Public Security Police (PSP) arrested a Filipino woman on Monday for stealing goods worth 400 patacas from a supermarket in San Kio district, a PSP spokesperson announced during a regular press conference yesterday.

The 40-year-old suspect surnamed Mayuyu, who holds  a Philippine passport, has just been hired as a domestic helper.

According to the spokesperson, the supermarket staff saw a Filipino woman putting several items from the shelves in the supermarket into her own bag and attempting to leave without paying for them, and the staff immediately stepped forward to stop her and reported it to the police.

Under questioning, the spokesperson said, the woman told the police that she was suddenly in a trance and only forgot to pay for the goods, without any intention of stealing the goods.

The woman has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a theft charge, according to the spokesperson.
