A fireman has been suspended for a period of time after he knocked over 18 motorcycles in a roadside parking space in August last year when he was driving his car while drunk, the Secretariat for Security (GSS) announced on its website yesterday.
According to news reports in August last year, the fireman faced charges of drunk driving and hit-and-run. The accident occurred when he was off duty.
After the accident occurred in August last year, the Fire Services Bureau (CB) suspended the fireman on a temporary basis, awaiting his court trial.
The bureau launched a disciplinary procedure against the fireman at that time.
According to the GSS website, in April this year, the Court of First Instance (TJB) sentenced the fireman to three months in prison, but with a 21-month suspended sentence. The fireman was also banned from driving for 21 months.
The GSS website announced yesterday the Fire Services Bureau has completed its disciplinary procedure against the fireman in compliance with the results of the court ruling on his case.
According to the results of the disciplinary procedure, the website said, the bureau has decided to impose a suspension on the fireman. However, the website did not say how long the suspension will last.
The most serious punishment imposed on Public Security Forces officers by disciplinary procedures is dismissal. Other punishments include fines and suspension.
