Three mainlanders were arrested on Monday after falsely claiming that they had gambled all their money away and asked passers-by for money “to eat”, which was witnessed by a Public Security Police (PSP) officer, a PSP spokesperson said during a regular press conference yesterday.

According to the spokesperson, the three suspects are a woman surnamed Zhou in her forties, and a man in his fifties surnamed Xu who is her husband, and another man in his fifties surnamed Zhou. The trio told the police that they are farmers from the same hometown.

On Monday at 11 p.m., the threesome were spotted by police officers talking to passers-by in Zape, falsely claiming that they had gambled away all their money and needed cash to eat and eventually cheated a mainland male visitor out of 60 patacas. They were intercepted and arrested in Avenida 24 de Junho.
