The Macao International Children’s Arts Festival (MICAF) Fun Day – Arts Carnival, which was held on two consecutive weekends from August 23 to 25 and August 30 to September 1, attracted a total of 63,000 visits throughout its run, integrated resort (IR) operator Sands China said in a statement earlier this week.
The arts carnival marked the finale of the first Macao International Children’s Arts Festival, which took place from July to August. The festival, for which Sands China was one of the co-organisers, was part of the company’s ongoing community revitalisation efforts.
Among the carnival’s raft of activities were large art decorations, cultural and creative bazaars, an art park, and various stage and street performances.
Sands China Executive Vice Chairman Wilfred Wong Ying-wai was quoted by the statement as saying: “In cooperation with the Cultural Affairs Bureau, the MICAF Fun Day – Art Carnival delivered a limited-time summer hotspot for parents and children, giving them an opportunity to spend quality parent-child time together with a variety of fun and artistic activities. We hope that by supporting the various arts and cultural activities in Macau’s revitalisation areas, we can further enrich the leisure and tourism experience at Macau Cultural Centre Plaza and nearby areas, in support of the integrated development of culture and tourism in Macau.”
The statement said that the company also sponsored two wind orchestra performances by the Macao Band Directors Association’s Macau Youth Symphonic Band on August 24 and 31, which performed Disney and Studio Ghibli animated films’ soundtracks including those from “Frozen” and “Spirited Away.” Some of the young musicians performed solos after the main performances.
The statement added that on July 26, around 30 Sands Cares Ambassadors and parent-child members from Sheng Kung Hui Macau Social Services Coordination Office watched the award-winning multimedia puppet show “Tic Tac: The Hero of Time” and explored MICAF’s large outdoor art installations at Macau Cultural Centre Plaza.
Moreover, on August 24, the company gathered around 30 Sands Cares Ambassadors and members of Macao Catholic Family Advisory Council at the carnival for activities including watching the Macau Youth Symphonic Band performance, a Macau Cultural Centre backstage tour, and parent-child art workshops.
