The government’s project to set up a temporary open-air venue for hosting large-scale performances, located on a large plot next to the Lisboeta Macau resort in Cotai, has been completed, the Public Works Bureau (DSOP) announced on its website on Tuesday.
The facility is officially known as Macau Open-Air Performance Venue.
The project, which got off the ground in August, was carried out by Shing Lung Construction and Engineering Company Limited for a price tag of 84.78 million patacas.
In June, the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) announced the government’s decision to choose the 94,000-square-metre plot as the location for setting up its temporary open-air venue for hosting concerts and other performances with a capacity of 50,000 spectators.
The plot in south-east Cotai is located east of the Lisboeta Macau resort, and south of the Grand Lisboa Palace Resort Macau complex.
Lisboeta Macau is situated east of the government-owned Macau East Asian Games Dome.
Before the construction of the Macau Open-Air Performance Venue got off the ground in August, according to the DSOP website, the Public Works Bureau earlier this year commissioned an architecture company to carry out the project’s design for a price tag of 2.28 million patacas, after which the bureau commissioned two construction companies to carry out the plot’s ground levelling work for a total price tag of 2.835 million patacas.
Consequently, the project cost 89.9 million patacas in total.
Speaking during Tuesday’s press conference summarising his five-year administration, outgoing Chief Executive Ho Iat Seng said that the first trial performance is scheduled to be held at the government-owned outdoor venue for hosting large-scale performances in Cotai on December 28.
Ho also said that the venue is designed for up to 50,000 spectators under normal operations, but it could take in a maximum of 80,000 spectators if needed.
