Macau Customs Service (SA) officers on Monday busted a shop suspected of selling counterfeit brand items violating intellectual property rights (IP) of the South Korean brand “WE11DONE”, involving 729 bogus items worth 1.23 million patacas in total, according to the prices that the products would have fetched if they had been genuine, an SA spokesperson said during a press conference yesterday.
A mainland female sales assistant working for the shop was arrested on Monday, according to the spokesperson, adding that the shop’s two owners, a 37-year-old mainland man and a 41-year-old South Korean woman, have operated the shop since 2022.
Customs officers yesterday were still tracking down the whereabouts of the two owners.
According to the spokesperson, the Macau Customs Service has carried out spot checks on local shops recently and discovered that one shop in Nam Van district was suspected of selling copyright infringement products.
The spokesperson noted that the bogus items were sold at prices ranging from 259 to 299 patacas each, with the South Korean female owner being in charge of stocking, shipping and price setting, adding that the buyers were both locals and visitors.
The spokesperson said that the sales assistant was transferred to the Public Prosecution Office (MP) on Monday for violating Industrial Property Code Decree-Law No 97/99/M.
