A Mongolian has been arrested for allegedly stealing HK$6,000 from a taxi driver, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Cheong Heon Fan said during a regular press conference yesterday.

The suspect surnamed Ganbaatar, who is in his thirties, told the police that he’s a businessman.

According to Cheong, a taxi driver reported to the police in October that on October 15, Ganbaatar, his passenger, stole HK$6,000 from his crossbody bag which was placed on the seat next to him.

Police scrutinised their citywide CCTV camera system and CCTV footage in the taxi and identified the suspect as Ganbaatar. He was arrested last Tuesday when he re-entered Macau through the Hong Kong–Zhuhai–Macau Bridge (HZMB) checkpoint.

Under questioning, he denied the accusation.

Ganbaatar has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a theft charge, Cheong said.
