The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) warned the public yesterday against eating a certain batch of fish sauce (250 ml) under the brand of “LORINS” made in the Philippines, as one batch of the product was found to contain excessive levels of the heavy metal cadmium.

The problematic product batch, which has a batch number of CBD 04JUL2026 B# A483 1046, was found to contain an excessive amount of heavy metal cadmium, 0.176 mg of heavy metal cadmium per kg, the statement said.

The bureau said in a statement yesterday that it has issued a food alert to order local retailers to remove the product from their shelves and stop selling it, while also dispatching IAM officials to inspect the food market and tracing the source and sales direction of the products.

Cadmium is a heavy metal contaminant whose long-term ingestion can cause damage to human kidney functions, the statement said, adding that according to the analysis of the cadmium content detected in the samples concerned, the chance of adverse health effects is low under normal consumption conditions.

Consumers who have purchased and are in possession of the above affected batch of product should stop consuming it immediately, the statement said, adding that the bureau will continue to follow up and investigate the incident to protect the food safety of consumers.
