A new exhibition titled “Garden of Time – Mucha’s Art Poems” is taking place at Hwa’s Gallery (formerly the Humarish Club) in the Lisboeta Macau H853 Fun Factory complex in Cotai.

The exhibition features silk screen print reproductions of posters by Czech painter, illustrator and graphic artist Alphonse Mucha (1860-1939), a representative painter of the Art Nouveau period (1883–1914).

According to Wikipedia, Mucha lived in Paris during the period and was known for his “distinctly stylised and decorative theatrical posters”, particularly those of French stage actress Sarah Bernhardt (1844-1923).

Wikipedia adds that Mucha produced illustrations, advertisements, decorative panels, as well as designs that became among the best-known images of the period.

The artworks presented are reproductions of works that were made in the late 1890s, later remade by professional printmakers authorised by the Mucha Foundation, according a recent statement by the gallery.

Describing his works, the statement said that Mucha had an “elegant, romantic, delicate and aesthetic style of painting” that captured “the beauty of the female form” through delicate lines enhanced by floral and botanical elements.

The statement noted that the exhibition is on until February 25 and aims to introduce visitors to the Art Nouveau style through Mucha’s works, enabling them to “experience the elegance and sophistication of this historical art movement”.

Those interested in viewing the works can visit the gallery daily from 12 noon to 8 p.m. For details, one can visit https://www.humarish.com
