A local man was arrested on Friday for allegedly raping his female employee, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Cheong Siu Keong said during a special press conference yesterday.

Cheong identified the suspect as a 33-year-old businessman surnamed Ieong. The victim is a young woman from the mainland who has been working as a non-resident worker (NRW) for Ieong since last week, handling promotional and sales activities.

According to Cheong, on Friday evening, the victim accompanied Ieong to host company clients, during which they drank alcoholic beverages. At 9 p.m., the victim felt intoxicated and repeatedly demanded to go home, but Ieong forcibly took her back to the company, claiming it was for “urgent business.” The victim was unable to stay awake and fell asleep at a desk. Ieong then suggested she move to a sofa to sleep, and when she refused, he dragged her there, removed her clothing, and raped her. The victim attempted to resist but was too intoxicated to escape. After the assault, she ran to the bathroom, locked herself in, and called the police. After the rape, Ieong returned to his flat and went back to the company with his domestic helper, along with cleaning supplies, attempting to clean the scene. However, Ieong was caught red-handed by the Public Security Police (PSP), who then transferred the case to the Judiciary Police (PJ).

Under questioning, Ieong refused to cooperate and physically attacked a police officer, resulting in minor injuries to the officer. The victim underwent a medical examination, which revealed injuries to her hands, and a test confirmed that Ieong had raped her. Cheong did not elaborate on what type of test was performed.

Ieong was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) yesterday, facing a rape charge.
