Xia Baolong, who heads both the Hong Kong and Macau Work Office of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Director of the State Council’s Hong Kong and Macau Affairs Office, met this morning with Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai.
Xia arrived in Macau yesterday for a six-day fact-finding visit to the special administrative region.
A statement by the Macau Government Information Bureau (GCS) tonight quoted Xia as saying during the closed-door meeting that Sam has led the new-term Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) government in its resolute implementation of the spirit of the important speeches delivered by President Xi Jinping during his inspection visit to Macau last December, and of the decisions made by the central authorities.
Xia also said that Sam's leadership has resulted in a good start for the new-term government.
Xia added that the 2025 Policy Address delivered by Sam last month embodied a spirit of courage and covered a wide range of topics, for which the central authorities express their appreciation and full support.
According to the GCS statement, Sam expressed gratitude for the central authorities’ support and care for the MSAR. Since its inauguration, the new-term government has actively studied and implemented the spirit of President Xi’s important speeches while visiting Macau, Sam said.
The chief executive was also quoted as saying that the local government will continue to unite all sectors of society, ensure dedication to the advancement of development through innovation, forge ahead to break new ground, and promote high-quality development in the MSAR’s endeavours.
Zheng Xincong, who heads the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the MSAR, attended the meeting held at the office's New Bamboo Court guesthouse on Penha Hill. Zheng is the highest-ranking central government official posted to Macau.
Xia, 72, is a former governor and secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) of Zhejiang Province. He has held his current posts since February 2020. He holds a doctorate in Economics.
