An ongoing exhibition at the gallery of the Portuguese Bookshop entitled Pequenos Mundos – em Estado Sólido (“Tiny Worlds – In Solid State”) is hoping to evoke and inspire memories and emotions among gallerygoers through the works on display.
To be held until next Saturday at the gallery located in the bookshop’s basement, the exhibition is one of the many activities held in celebration of “June, the Month of Portugal”. Portugal celebrated its National Day on June 10.
The works on display, which this time are set in a dimly lit and ambient setting, were created by Coimbra-born artist Cláudia Falcão and features exhibits composed of photographs of Macau and Portugal transposed onto stones.
According to a recent statement by the gallery, the resulting works are “influenced by the morphology of the stone, its colour, textures and imperfections”, with the result being hoped to achieve the exhibition’s aims.
The works showcased also aim to offer a “unique perspective on the rich cultural and visual mosaic that Macau and Portugal share”, inviting exhibitiongoers to explore the “tiny worlds” through an “intimate and reflective gaze”, according to the statement.
The book shop, located on Rua de São Domingos (板樟堂街), is open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. Admission is free.
