The University of Saint Joseph (USJ) launched two exhibitions yesterday on its Ilha Verde campus, bringing together student work from undergraduate and master’s degree programmes in a single opening event.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held last night for both the “CITY MAKERS” bachelor’s degree graduation exhibition and the “Unseen Macao” master’s degree showcase in the Kent Wong Gallery.

The private Catholic university’s Head of the Department of Architecture and Design Professor Nuno Soares delivered a speech before the ribbon-cutting ceremony, after which he guided guests and participants around the venue and introduced the exhibits.

The undergraduate “CITY MAKERS” exhibition features final projects from architecture and design students completing their bachelor’s degrees. Architecture students present “Building a Green Island Community”, exploring sustainable and community-focused development concepts for Macau’s North-1 urban zone. Design graduates showcase “Designing for Empowering”, with works addressing accessibility, sustainability, social inclusion and cultural identity through product, furniture and graphic design, according to a recent statement from the university’s website.

The statement noted that simultaneously, the “Unseen Macao” exhibition displays first-year work from the department’s master’s programmes. The Master of Architecture contribution, “Unseen Hengqin: Prototyping the future of GBA”, offers speculative prototypes for Greater Bay Area (GBA) development, while the Master of Design presents “Unseen Interactions”, examining interactive experiences, digital interfaces and user-centred solutions.

Both exhibitions will remain open to the public through July 31, operating Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. It is closed on Sundays and public holidays. Admission is free for all visitors.

The dual exhibition offers members of the public insights into emerging ideas for Macau’s urban and cultural development from the university’s next generation of design professionals.
