A car crashed into a shop in Taipa after colliding with a public bus, slightly injuring a passenger on the bus, while a staff member of the shop felt unwell after being scared, the authorities said.

The police said yesterday that the accident occurred due to the driver of the car failing to give way.

According to statements by the Fire Services Bureau (CB) and the Public Security Police (PSP), the accident occurred outside the Chun Fok Village residential estate on Rua do Regedor at around 5 p.m. yesterday. The car leaving the residential estate’s carpark and entering the street crashed into the public bus that was passing, after which it ran onto the pavement and then crashed into a dried seafood shop there.

According to the CB statement, a passenger on the bus, a local woman in her sixties, sustained slight contusions on her right shoulder. She was taken to the public Conde de São Januário Hospital Centre for treatment.

A staff member of the shop, a female non-resident worker (NRWs) in her thirties, told paramedics that she felt dizzy after being scared by the crash. She was taken to the nearby medical centre run by the private Kiang Wu Hospital for a medical examination and treatment.

According to the PSP statement, the car driver is a 40-year-old local woman, while the bus driver is a 40-year-old local man. Neither of them was injured.

The car driver passed a breathalyser test, the police said.

The police also said that the crash was due to the car driver failing to give way when leaving the residential estate’s carpark and entering the street.

The police said that the car driver will be fined for failing to give way.

According to the Road Traffic Law, drivers failing to give way face a fine of 900 patacas.
